Elean Almazan: Rosarian Achiever Extraordinaire

Elean entered high school as an academic scholar. He showed promising prowess in Science and Mathematics, and boy, he did not disappoint. He was a consistent honor student. He was a contender in numerous contests in UP Diliman, UP Los Baños, and other schools across Laguna and neighboring provinces.

At the height of his junior high school, Elean participated in the Luzon area stage of the prestigious Philippine Math Olympiad. He repeated this achievement two more times during his senior high school. Elean, together with his co-scholar Relly Adlawan, also placed fifth in the regional finals of Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge.

The accolades he got in 5 years of high school were nothing compared to those he achieved in his last year. He was a silver medalist in Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (April 2019), gold medalist and ranked second in Singapore International Math Olympiad (July 2019) and Singapore Math Global Team Competition (November 2019), a silver medalist in Math Without Borders, a With High Honors achiever in Asian Math Enhancement Program, and a would-be participant in the International Regions Math League (May 2020).


Thus, Elean became a recipient of this year's Youth Excellence in Science (YES) Award given by the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). Awardees are recognized and honored by a medal of distinction given by DOST which signifies its high regard for excellence and competitiveness through the distinguised achievements of young Filipinos in international science and mathematics competitions.

Elean graduated high school with high honors and top of his class. Proper nurturing of a God-given talent produces wonderful results. He humbly expresses his gratitude to God and to all his mentors and coaches, without them, none of these is possible.
